Drive dead, running recovery

Well, the inevitable happened, my oldest drive keeled over, a 500GB IDE drive that I had my TV Shows on. Disparity is performing a recovery right now, my only worry is I know I added a couple things to one drive, and I don't think I ran an update, but I don't think I deleted anything without running an update, I guess I'll see!

One thing I noticed...disparity isn't writing log files to it's folder.. not since when I first used it in september..so I'm worried if it does miss a file I won't know about it (since it's only outputting to terminal).

Anyhow, thanks again for Disparity! It's on season 3 of Battlestar Galactica already!

Well, it took 4 hours, and recovered 300 gigs, everything is there!

    Thanks Roland!

Wow, so exciting! You are the first person I know of to officially use disParity to recover from an actual drive crash. I used it once to recover a drive I deleted by mistake, but it happened because I was working on disParity at the time and was setting up a test, so that doesn't really count.

Yes if the only changes you made since the last update were adds, that should not affect the recover.

But damn that sure is strange about the log files. It writes the log files to the current directory. Normally that's the same folder as the .exe, but perhaps you are running it in such a way that the current directory is set somewhere else? The way it's coded right now, if an error occurred trying to create the log file, that should actually cause disParity to abort. So it seems like the log files would have to be written somewhere. So strange...

Well, I just figured out the log problem, nothing wrong at all with your program, just user error. You put the format of the log files as "yy-mm-dd" .. and how my view of the folder was setup, I was only seeing "09-mm" and not showing date/time stamps, so I assumed month was showing first, and was only seeing september, doh!

I'm glad I could be the first one, besides, it gives me a reason to get another 1TB drive to replace my 500GB :D

Good to hear the drive recovery works! I have disParity protecting about 1.5TB of data right now (movies, TV shows, MP3s, etc). Not that I'm looking forward to a drive crash, but it's nice to know I'm protected. BTW, I have a task set to do nightly updates.

    Yeah, it works great!

I'm up and running again, rebuilt my parity to a USB drive, took 7 hours for 2.2TB @ 87mb/sec

Another to add a recovery in conjunction with the undelete function.

I accidentally deleted about 45 gigs (deleting junctions while very tired is a bad bad bad thing).

I was able to recover just the items I zapped without any issues.

Thanks again Roland for this most excellent program.

Welcome vapoured, hope you find disParity useful. I'm currently using it to protect almost 8TB of data (!)
