   I have an eight drive setup 1TB (x1), 2TB(x6), 3TB(x1) with a 3TB(x1) parity drive.

   Currently:
   Drive 1 2TB 2GB free
   Drive 2 2TB 19GB free
   Drive 3 2TB 4GB free
   Drive 4 3TB 72GB free
   Drive 5 2TB 835GB free
   Drive 6 2TB 222GB free
   Drive 7 2TB 866GB free
   Drive 8 1TB 352GB free

   Drive P 3TB 70GB free

   The remaining space on the parity drive does not add up to me !?
   Am I missing something !?

   Will I need to delete the parity drive at some point and re-create the parity to make the best use of the parity algorithm !?

   This sounds correct to me. Drive 4 is the same size as your parity drive and only has 72GB free. The parity drive has 70GB free, but there is always some overhead on the parity drive due to the extra file information that must be stored along with the actual parity data itself. You mentioned in another post I think that you have millions of files, so that will take a noticeable amount of extra space. To see how much exactly, add up the sizes of all the files*.dat files on your parity drive (there should be 8 of them, one for each drive), then multiply by 2 because there is also a backup of each one.

   The easiest way to avoid running out of space on your parity drive would be to move some of the stuff on drive 4 to another drive. It's drive 4 alone that is causing your parity drive to be almost full. Since all the other drives are 2TB or less they aren't an issue.

   Shouldn't drive 1,2 or 3 be controlling the parity as they only 2, 19 and 4 GB free, rather than drive 4 which has 72GB !?

   Also, the backup status line is a little odd it says:
   172,252 files (12.3 TB) protected. All drives up to date.

   The 172,252 looks wrong to me ... I was expected ~ 44 millions files

   No, only the drive with the most data on it influences the size of the parity drive, nothing else. It doesn't matter how much space is free on any drive. Drive 4 has almost 3TB of data on it, so the parity drive will also have almost 3TB of parity on it.

   If you really do have 44 million files, then the vast majority of them were not protected by disParity if disParity says it has only 172K files protected. Without examining your configuration directly I can't say why that it is.

   The UI also shows how many files are protected on each drive individually. Take a look at each drive and see if the number shown there matches how many files you think are on that drive.

   The totals tie up with explorer and what disparity is reporting for each drive and the total
   One drive 58,714 files (matches disparity), 22717 folders, a total of 81,436 files.

   However, this does not tie up with the verify numbers.
   { note there are a lot of hidden files involved which should be being saved. }

   The verification deals with parity blocks.

   Sorry my confusion.
